(to) Eat (one’s) Words – This is an idiomatic verb phrase which means:  To embarrassingly have to admit that one was wrong about something that he or she said with such certainty that he or she is made to feel foolish later for having said what he or she said…  “I told my entire office that there was absolutely no way possible for Germany to win the world cup and that if they did, I’d shave my head.  I guess I had to *eat my words*.  Luckily my colleagues didn’t make me shave my head, but I did have to pay for drinks after work.”
