Phrasal-Adverbs – Letter N (With Prepositions)

–  Prepositional Phrasal-Adverbs – Letter N  –

In A Nut-Shell – This is an idiomatic adverb phrase of manner, which is used to summarize something in the most simplistic way without any other extraneous information.  We use the word “nutshell” because all nut-shells are small.  So to put an explanation into a “nutshell”, one would have to (figuratively) make it a simple and “small” description…  “First of all, we haven’t finished the projects we are currently working on.  Secondly, we don’t have the resources to take on any new projects.  And third, if we even tried to, the work would suffer and that would, in-turn, cause our reputation to suffer as well.  So, *in a nut-shell*, the answer is ‘No’, we can’t take on any new projects.”
