Beyond (one’s) Grasp – This is an adjectival phrase that can be used either literally (beyond the point of being able to “grasp” [get, reach, hold onto] something) or figuratively, not able to understand, achieve, attain…  “The lesson material was very difficult and way *beyond his grasp*.”  –  “Without having wealthy parents, to be able to go to a good University, was way *beyond his grasp*.”
